Science Aims:
Science at Gunter aims to develop our pupils understanding of the world by asking questions and testing ideas.
Vision:
Our vision is to foster curiosity and a love of science in our pupils, for them to ask questions, test ideas, measure and observe and interpret their findings. This is done through careful planning in order to meet the needs of our pupils ensuring they learn both key foundational knowledge, scientific concepts as well as working scientifically skills. Children are given a range of opportunities to reinforce their understanding through Science lessons, Science week and through the wider curriculum. Our bespoke curriculum is planned from EYFS to Year 6 to ensure pupils reinforce prior learning and develop key concepts over time and is adapted to our pupils needs. In addition, many of the educational visits children attend across the school are to enhance their scientific knowledge and understanding.

Science is taught weekly and follows the national curriculum. Children are taught scientific knowledge(substantive) and working scientifically(disciplinary knowledge). There's a focus on children using a range of enquiry types across the year as well as learning about famous and current scientists. Each academic year children celebrate science during science week: this gives children further opportunities to develop the working scientifically skills.
