Art Subject Lead – Miss Collins
Our Art Vision
Within school, everyone is an artist. We want our art curriculum to support all children with this belief, allowing them to explore and develop a variety of Art skills and techniques. We want to provide children will the knowledge and skills in order to be able to make their own responses and expressions. Art is a practical subject but it also provides opportunities for children to reflect and respond in their own ways.
We follow our own bespoke Art curriculum, which follows the national curriculum and a clear progression of skills. Having our own bespoke curriculum allows us to make links to prior knowledge and learning where it is appropriate. For example developing a variety of paintbrush skills based on using Cave painting as a source of inspiration. Each year group covers each art strand across the year. These art strands and then revisited and built upon during the next year, creating a spiral curriculum. We also link the art strands to the key elements of art (line, shape, texture, form, pattern, colour).
Our Art Strands –
Drawing
Painting
3D Form and Sculpture
Textiles and Collage
Printing
Within these strands we cover the aspects of explore, evaluating and developing ideas. We also cover a range of artists linked to the skills or element of art we are exploring. Children use sketch books from year 1 to year 6 allowing them a safe space to explore new skills and develop ideas.
