GIFTED AND TALENTED GUIDANCE
Nationally, pupils in the school’s own able cohort are referred to as Gifted and Talented pupils. DFE guidelines stated that: “Gifted and Talented pupils are those pupils who achieve, or have the ability to achieve, at a level significantly in advance of the average for their year group.” It is generally accepted that this would represent between 5 and 10% of each year group, with variations from year to year.
The Excellence In Cities model states:
“Gifted” Learners are those who have abilities in one or more subjects in the statutory school curriculum, other than Art and Design, Music and P.E.
“Talented” learners are those who have abilities in Art and Design, Music, P.E., or Performing Arts such as Dance and Drama.
