In our school we have a governor who is responsible for monitoring our Special Educational Needs provision.
Their job is to meet with the inclusion manager, review relevant documentation, and carry out school visits.
Through this work, the SEN governor will make sure that children, young people and families are being supported by the right services from in and outside of school; will observe what happens in classrooms and meet with class teachers, support staff and children and young people; and ensure other governors are kept up to date on SEND legislation and guidance.
In addition, the Head teacher and Inclusion Manager produce a report to the full governing board twice a year. This ensures that the whole governing body is aware of how special educational needs are being supported in the school and how well this support is working. The governors will challenge, support and advise the head teacher if appropriate provision isn’t being made.
